Musical Artcards

Art You Can Hear. Art You Can Trade.

What if music could be collected, gifted, saved, and traded as a work of art?

Musical Artcards bring music and visual art together in a collectible format, creating new opportunities for musicians, visual artists, and collectors.

Each Musical Artcard combines original music with visual artwork in a physical card that can be collected, shared, and traded.

Musicians make the music. Artists make the art. Together, they create something worth collecting.

What Is a Musical Artcard?

A Musical Artcard is a collectible artwork measuring 2.5 × 3.5 inches—the familiar size of an artist trading card.

Each card features an original illustration, design, painting reproduction, or photograph, together with a QR code or web link connecting the collector to an original musical recording.

The music might be a single song, an instrumental composition, an EP, or an entire album.

Musical Artcards may be individually created originals or signed, limited editions.

The physical card is the collectible artwork. The accompanying music brings it to life.

Imagine a beautifully illustrated card that introduces you to a musician's original composition, or a collection of cards representing different songs, albums, and artists.

A miniature art collection. A musical discovery. Something you can hold, enjoy, and trade.

Musicians: Give Your Music a Physical Life

In a world where music is increasingly distributed digitally, Musical Artcards offer musicians a tangible way to share their work.

Create a collectible edition for a new single, album, or special recording. Give cards to fans, offer them for sale, include them with merchandise, or trade them for other art, goods, and services.

Each card becomes a physical expression of your music—something collectors can keep, display, gift, and exchange.

You can create the artwork yourself or collaborate with a visual artist to develop something unique.

Musicians Meet Visual Artists

Two artists. Two art forms. One collectible work of art.

Musical Artcards create opportunities for musicians and visual artists to work together.

Musicians are invited to commission painters, illustrators, photographers, printmakers, and designers to create original artwork inspired by their music.

Visual artists can offer their creative services in exchange for payment, recordings, artwork, or other agreed trades.

Find collaborators through the free Minnaar Trading Post, or meet fellow artists and musicians at our weekly Minnaar Money Meetups.

Collaborators make their own arrangements regarding compensation, reproduction rights, and creative contributions. Both the musician and visual artist can be credited on the finished Artcard.

Create together. Collect together. Trade together.

Create Your Own Musical Artcards

Musical Artcards are simple to produce and offer considerable creative freedom.

The basic format is:

  • Size: 2.5 × 3.5 inches.
  • Artwork: An original visual design, illustration, photograph, or other artwork.
  • Music: A QR code or web link providing access to the musician's original recording.
  • Edition: A one-of-one original or a signed, limited edition.
  • Identification: The musician's name, artwork credits, title, and edition details, as applicable.

Artists are encouraged to use quality materials, provide durable links to their music, and make each card a collectible work worth keeping.

You are free to produce, distribute, sell, gift, and trade your own Musical Artcards independently.

Musical Artcards as Minnaar Money

Selected Musical Artcards may also become Minnaar Money — Art You Can Trade.

Artist and curator Steven Minnaar invites musicians and their visual artist collaborators to submit completed Musical Artcards for consideration in the Minnaar Catalogue.

Works personally selected by Steven are registered under Guest Artist Selections, becoming part of a growing collection of art designed for ongoing exchange.

Each accepted Musical Artcard receives:

  • Permanent Catalogue Recognition: A lasting record of the work, with credits for its musician and visual artist, and a link to their website.
  • Digital Certificate of Authenticity: Documentation identifying the registered physical artwork and its creators.
  • Sovereign Value (1 SV): An assigned exchange value equivalent to other 1 SV Minnaars.
  • Lasting Exchange Privileges: The card remains registered and eligible for exchange as it passes from collector to collector.

A Musical Artcard might be exchanged for a drawing, photograph, sculpture, or another musical artwork. Several Minnaars may be combined toward available works of greater value.

The music can be heard. The art can be held. The Minnaar can be traded.

How to Submit

Artists may submit up to three works at a time, as often as they wish.

Submission is free. Steven may select one, several, or none from each group, according to his artistic standards.

For each accepted Musical Artcard, the submitting artist contributes the physical card and one ounce of silver to the Minnaar Treasury.

Where to Get Silver: One troy ounce of .999 fine silver can be purchased from local coin shops or bullion dealers. Simply search "bullion dealer near me" to find one nearby.

There is no limit to the number of works that may be selected. Each accepted physical card is registered individually; other copies of the same edition do not automatically become Minnaar Money.

Musical Artcards are a collectible art format open to independent creators. Only physical cards personally selected and registered in the Minnaar Catalogue become Minnaar Money and receive its exchange privileges. Creators retain their copyrights and are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions to reproduce artwork and share recordings. Sovereign Value is an art-exchange reference, not a guarantee of cash or silver redemption.
